I am Sienna, the founder of ZIMLOOM.
I was born into the Zhuang ethnic community in China, a culture rich in history, creativity, and craftsmanship. Growing up, I was surrounded by the beauty of Zhuang traditions — the meaningful patterns, colorful textiles, and stories passed down through generations.
Among these traditions, Zhuang Brocade has always held a special place in my heart.
To me, Zhuang Brocade is not simply a textile. It is a piece of living heritage. Every pattern carries a message, every color reflects a cultural memory, and every thread represents the patience and wisdom of the artisans who created it.
As I learned more about this traditional craft, I also realized that this beautiful art form was facing challenges. Traditional handwoven Zhuang Brocade requires extraordinary time, skill, and dedication. With fewer people able to continue this demanding craft, I began to think about how we could help this heritage continue to live in the modern world.
That thought became the beginning of ZIMLOOM.
Zhuang Brocade and Story Behind Zimloom
Zhuang Brocade (壮锦, Zhuang Jin) is one of the most treasured traditional textile arts of the Zhuang ethnic group in Guangxi, China. With a history spanning more than a thousand years, it is recognized as an important part of China’s intangible cultural heritage.
Traditionally, Zhuang Brocade was created entirely by hand using complex weaving techniques. Artisans carefully arrange colorful threads to create symbolic patterns inspired by nature, life, and blessings.
Each pattern carries cultural meanings, like

The name ZIMLOOM carries the spirit of Zhuang Brocade within it.
“ZIM” is inspired by the pronunciation of “锦” (Jin) in Chinese, representing brocade — a textile filled with beauty, patterns, and cultural meaning.
“LOOM” refers to the traditional weaving machine used to create textiles. The earliest Zhuang Brocade was made on looms by skilled artisans, who carefully intertwined threads to create intricate patterns by hand.
Together, ZIMLOOM represents the connection between Zhuang Brocade and the loom — the meeting point of heritage, craftsmanship, and creativity.
Our name reflects our belief that traditional weaving should not disappear in the past. Instead, it should continue to be woven into modern life.

I believe traditional crafts should not only remain in museums or history books. They should be seen, touched, used, and loved in everyday life.
While traditional Zhuang Brocade was originally woven entirely by hand, creating a single piece of fabric could take a great amount of time. In the past, an artisan might spend an entire day weaving only a small section of fabric, carefully creating each pattern thread by thread.
To help preserve this heritage while making it accessible to more people, ZIMLOOM uses authentic Zhuang Brocade woven fabric combined with handmade craftsmanship.
This approach allows us to preserve the original beauty and symbolism of Zhuang Brocade patterns while adding the warmth and individuality of human hands.
Even with modern weaving techniques, each ZIMLOOM piece still requires careful craftsmanship. A single handmade Zhuang Brocade bag can take 3--5 days to complete, from cutting and sewing to shaping and finishing.
Through ZIMLOOM, I hope to build a bridge between the past and the future, between traditional craftsmanship and modern design, and between Zhuang culture and the world.
